1)  Publicity costs money, advertising costs money, it costs money to go on tour... Is this going to help me make more money?

I get this question a lot.  The short answer to this question is 'Yes'.  There's just as much money in the world today as there's ever been.  In fact, there's more.  There's more people and more wealth than there's ever been.  Art, no matter what form, has always been about one thing: Inspiration.  Knowing that in fact there's plenty of money, I encourage you to share who you are, free yourself on stage and inspire your audience, and then take advantage of the opportunities that come your way.

The long answer is another question and it goes like this:

Is there anything you can't do right now to connect with your audience and take the next step in your music career because of money?

You see, you never need more money or more time than you already have available to take the next step. Seeing or trying to see all the steps laid out in front of you is a mistake. It will paralyze you. Instead, take the step that's right in front of you. Just ask yourself: “What's the next step for me to take in my music career?” Do you have the resources available right now to take that next step? The answer is yes, isn't it?

And if there's more than one step in front of you, always take the step that promises to be the most fun. The rest of the details tend to take care of themselves as your career unfolds, often in directions you can't predict.  You can make money in a variety of ways once your career starts growing. You start growing when you start sharing.

2) Are you suggesting you know a sure way to make it in the music business?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say 'absolutely'.  Yes.  I'm suggesting that when you love playing live, share all the way, and connect with your audience, you'll have the best gig you've ever had.  And it's a good feeling.  You can live your dream again and again.  If you can get out of your own way, nothing's going to stop you.  I can't say exactly what it'll look like for you, but you can get as big as you want.

First you've got to believe again.  Really get in touch with why.  Get in touch with your vision and really feel it.  Then you've got to identify all the things holding you back.  Then you defeat those things.  It feels like vulnerability at first, but true vulnerability is actually invulnerability.  You can do what you want.  You can give your audience what they want. Then you learn a whole lot about what's really going on when you get up on stage.  Then you have the best gig you've ever had.  Then you learn how to identify the next step and take it, always take it, and grow your music career.

3) Is this some kind of brainwashing program?

Absolutely not. This is about helping you express more of who you are. What other people see in you. What they want for you. Your fullest potential.

And it's about expanding your awareness. That said, we all have limiting and negative beliefs layered on to our experience, that narrow our awareness. But is the sum of these limiting and negative thoughts who we are?

No, there's something more, something true, something independent of all that. It's where the music comes from. I think you know what I'm talking about.

But aside from that, the fact is, from the time you were born, you've been growing and changing with each new experience, and each time you've changed, BAM – that's who you are.  Some of what you've learned along the way has served you and some of it hasn't.  Some of it has placed you in conflict with yourself.

The real question is: what's your next experience going to be?  You can do the same thing you did yesterday, or you can move forward.  You must decide.

4) I have a wife and two kids - can I still be a rockstar?

Absolutely! Is there anything that's really stopping you?  One thing's for certain, perceiving conflicts will stop you in your tracks.  Do you think it'd also be good for your wife and kids if you believed in something again?  Believe in it and see where it leads you.  Accept who you are.  You'll see that there's no conflict here.  You can do exactly what you want - it may look a little different than it did when you were 18 that's all.  It's OK to want two or more things in your life.  It's OK to have more than one dream.  Let go of the sense of conflict and confidently build your life around all the things you want.

5) I don't know how to record my songs, and I don't know how good they are or what changes I should make... There's books on songwriting, and singing, I'm sure I could learn to do that better too. What is most important?

That's the beauty of what I teach.  You can learn anything you put your attention to.  And there IS learning to do.  All that stuff would be very useful for you to learn.  And there are things to learn all along the way, no matter what stage you're at.  Some of it takes time. Sometimes it all looks and feels like an obstacle, but that's only if you feel like there's some kind of pressure to get a certain result in a certain amount of time.  That you have something to prove.  That you can't just be who you are today and every day.  This is the real source of the resistance.  This is what takes away the fun.  You will learn all that stuff a lot faster if you can reduce or eliminate that resistance entirely.  If you're not always wondering what else you could or should be doing with yourself, or worrying that you might fail.
